Over View of this series of blogs

Strictly speaking Western Philosophy begins with Greek thinkers who have come to be called the Pre-Socratics e.g Parmenides.  We don't go into details of their thinking and skip to RenĂ© Descartes  a French philosopher, mathematician, and scientist. He is considered the father of modern western philosophy.

However I will summarise Pre-Socratic's views wherever required.

In this series the focus is on understanding the ideas from a lay-man's point of view. However some arguments would be introduced that need propositional logic. In this I am indebted to Dr Susan SauvĂ© Meyer whose online courses on Plato and Aristotle I have studied. I am particularly impressed by the simple style of her presenting the arguments and I hope to replicate the same here. I would recommend her courses for anyone interested in the Greeks.

Descartes's period is 1596-1650. You may wonder why three centuries in the title. Because we will skip from Descartes to Immanuel Kant who is considered the central figure and one of the most influential philosophers in the history of Western philosophy.

I am going to emphasise key ideas and logic than history. It's gonna be more of toying and tossing ideas than technical purity.
